NuVescor Advises KEM Enterprises, Inc., on its sale to an Individual Buyer
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – NuVescor Group is pleased to announce the successful sale of KEM Enterprises, Inc., of Ada, Mich., manufacturer of the Osto-EZ-Vent®, to individual investor Chris Blanker, owner of Michigan Instruments. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
KEM Enterprises, Inc., founded in 1996, manufactures and markets the trademarked Osto-EZ-Vent®, a medical device that allows ostomy patients to quickly and easily release built-up air pressure in their ostomy pouches. The long-established, well-recognized brand is sold throughout the U.S. and internationally, including Canada, the UK, the EU and Japan, through long-standing relationships with nearly two dozen medical supply companies.
Aaron James, grandson of the product’s inventor, Hans Butterwegge, has owned and operated KEM Enterprises, Inc since taking over from his mother, Kellie Laine, who founded the Company. James said finding a buyer who understood and valued what the Osto-EZ-Vent® means to the people who rely on it every day was central to the decision to sell.
Blanker, who also owns Michigan Instruments, a Grand Rapids-based manufacturer of medical related devices, said the acquisition strengthens his portfolio of businesses built around meaningful patient outcomes. He plans to keep production and operations rooted in West Michigan, building on the brand loyalty the Osto-EZ-Vent® has earned over nearly three decades. Blanker was advised in the transaction by Dan Duba of Calder Capital.
“It is always rewarding when the right fit with the buyer is found,” said Travis Ernst, M&A Advisor at NuVescor Group. “In this case, it was very important for the buyer to place such a high value on the end user of the vent. The success of this deal impacts the local vendors, employees and community since it is all remaining here in West Michigan.”
Ernst and Brad Quick, a Med Tech Advisor at NuVescor, represented KEM Enterprises, Inc in the transaction.
